Dear Music Lovers,
It’s time now to introduce Douglas Dare but we are sure you alreday know his music. If you do not, after reading this, you will do.
Douglas Dare is a London-based singer-songwriter, originally from Bridport, South West England. He is the son of a piano teacher, he began composing instrumental music from a young age, then started to be a songwriter.
Douglas Dare is an artist from ERASED TAPES RECORDS, a London based independent record label since 2007 focusing on releasing avant-garde music which is widely regarded as very diverse in genres and styles about artists they had signed, as you can see on the official website. As Douglas Dare said about the label: ‘It’s a real thrill to be working with Erased Tapes, a label whose artists have inspired me from the beginning and whose ethos I share wholeheartedly. This is an exciting time to join the family and I’m truly privileged to be a part of it.’
On his first LP ‘WHELM’ which has been released on May 12th 2014, Douglas Dare is able to make blooming his music with a rich and haunting vocals and composed songs from lyrics taken from his poems and short prose. This personal recipe gives songs very intimate.
The musician gives us this explanation about his music : ‘I wanted to make a record that would allow the listener to escape, something lush and immersive but when looked at closely, the grit and depth could be found. I didn’t write the record with a concept in mind but when thinking of titles I found this through-line; I realised the restless nature of humans and the erratic emotions I’d written about could be linked to water and more specifically the sea. I grew up in the coastal town of Bridport, Dorset; the sea was this constant thing in my life. And although I felt an affinity with it, I couldn’t swim until I was a teenager. This equal measure of joy and uncertainty I found in both people and water brought me to Whelm; it feels like a fitting title. To be engulfed. To be buried. To be whelmed.’
All amateurs of artists like Sohn, Atomos VII, Nils Frahm, Òlafur Arnalds, Julianna Barwick would appreciate Douglas Dare music. We really hope that share will find his listeners.

Here some dates with Douglas Dare on the official WHELM Tour:
‘ Take in a breath and treasure the light
Don’t let them see you move, you’ve got nothing to prove
Hold out your palms and place them in mine
Don’t let me feel you shake, in fear they find mistake
Silence the song with bugles that play
You need to hear the call, they’re wishing you to fall
Don’t let them see you fail
I will not let you fail ‘
